Two Chatelaines' farm continues to be a part of the patchwork of agriculture in the New Glarus area.  Although the cattle no longer graze the pastures, the land remains in active crop production, growing in 2010 soybeans, barley and alfalfa.

You will see a few Shetland ewes on the hill pastures, that make great lawn-mowers and supple a few pounds of wool for yarn.

A local beekeeper has several bee hives on the property.  The bees help to pollinate the crops and the honey harvested may be purchased by the grower for honey, soap and lotions.

Located 4.5 miles from the village of New Glarus,  it is a scenic drive through the countryside of Green County.

Chatelaine

A Chatelaine was "the mistress of the chateau or farm."

The mistress often carried her tools around the house attached to ornate chains hanging from a belt or pinned to a dress.  These chains held ornate needle holders, thimbles, scissors, writing pens, etc. and continue to be called Chatelaines.

For the modern "chatelaines" and "chatelans", we offer the farmhouse for rent, in hope that it provides our guests with:

  • a time to reflect,
  • a place to create,
  • an environment to rekindle      friendships
  • a peaceful encounter with nature.
